We recently moved into a modern townhome with a very starck industrial exterior, but a nice warm interior. Our neighbors think our building is an eye-sore, and most have no idea how nice it is inside...My question is, do you think such a harsh exterior will turn off most people when looking to buy, despite the warmth of the interior? You can see images of our place at the website of the developer: Fairfax Develops http://www.FairfaxDevelops.com We live in the Envelope building on the site, and the interiors are of our home. I've also attached a photo of the exterior.
Wow. That is is stark. I can't say I'd be in a hurry to buy based on that exterior. I like the clean lines of the interior, although I get more of 60s modern feel from it than 50s (but that's just personal). My guess would be that the number of potential buyers is somewhat limited. However, I assume you bought it because it appeals to you, and you plan to stay in it for awhile. Who knows? In 10 years, that may be just the look everyone wants. In the meantime, enjoy it.
Cool place. I think the hard part is finding the adventerous buyer. Like art, the value is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunatly, most people can't see past teh mortgage payment. You only live once. What cool digs to spend your time in. Congrats for having the guts to say 'I want to live in a piece of art' .
I agree with the two posts above. People who cannot see past the outside are simple ignorant in that particular area it is similar to not seeing the whole person just the outside.
