I have got a mahogany table and side board in my spare room and need a bookcase. I can't find any the same or similar colour, without it looking stupid.
What colour bookcase could i get that doesn't clash with the mahogany furniture?

I think you would also have to consider the design of your furniture, if its leaning towards modern - then dont be afraid to use colors, and textures, and the kind of total look of the room that you are going for. But if the design is very classic, then natural colors works best.. can you post a photo?
Furniture should have similar colors. But optionally you can have different color for the wall where book case is located. It will give elegant look than having book case in similar color as mahogany.
Mahogany is a gender neutral color, so anyone could use that kind of color. You can try some bright colors for your bookcase, maybe it will match mahogany...and maybe you can try barcelona chair and eames lounge chair by checking out the clearance sale going on now..
Do you have any pictures you can show us? I recently stumbled upon some cool shelves and sideboards cool shelves and sideboards and maybe those would work? But, I completely understand the frustration of finding another piece of furniture that is exactly the same color. You definitely need a lot of patience if you want to go that route
I like to have a main accent color theme in any given room. You can have all mahogany furniture and then you can have an accent piece such as a red egg chair. Good Luck!
Red chair with mahogany furniture, that’s not bad. Similar color! But what would do to bookcase? Red one, too?
Oh, it’s not that I hate red bookcase, since the bookshelves in my university are red. However, I prefer one with light color, like ivory or beige, accent color will destroy the literature and artistic image of bookroom, and give it a feeling of oppress. I won’t feel the desire to read in such an atmosphere.
