I find I'm attracted to Dansk thick pottery dinnerware and handwoven neutral or blue & white table linens as well as other types of "natural" home accessories.
I bought a set of Dansk bluestone dishes recently. It's a discontinued style, and now I'm wondering when they were made. It reminds me of the Scandinavian styles of the 1970's.
Would the 70's be a specific style era? I'm looking for a resource to identify those types of items so that I may collect some from time to time...Thanks for your help.
In every era there are usually many different styles going...the 70's in general seemed to be a very eclectic time. In looking at decorating magazines of the day, it is quite usual to see jute hangings mixed with designer plastic items and antique furnishing thrown in for fair measure.
Scandinavian modern design in general seems to do a very nice job of mixing natural materials in with the designs. But nature has a long history of being part of modern design. Russel Wright certainly blended nature in with his dinnerware and accessories designs. Even major U.S. Manufacturers like Knoll created casegoods with grasscloth door coverings, tables with marble or granite tops, and the like. I don't think you have to limit yourself to the 70's era items to find similar objects that you will like.
And even in today's designs, this practice of mixing nature in with the design has become popular once again.
