Does Anyone know where this service can be found? I found a rope edge chair that is missing 1 mount. Its a first generation Zenith, with X base.

Here is an answer from a known eames guru

Remounting it, once you get another early large mount, is very easy. PV7 from HomeDepot works really well, but it is not the prettiest stuff, dries grey and grainy. Use a bit sparingly once mixed, much will squirt out the sides once a bit of pressure (light pressure for 10 minutes, then medium pressure for the duration of the curing time is fine) is put on the mount, for setting and curing. I am still looking for the black glossy glue HM used.

I also learned that citrus strip works really well for removing paint from fiberglass. I tried a product called "Bulldog" for stripping rubber/plastic car bumpers, first but it was too aggresive and thinned out the top layer of resin! Good thing the chair is a dog anyway, I would be sick if it had color left in the shell!

I have had good success with an adhesive called E6000. It is extremely strong yet does not become brittle like super glues & some epoxies. I have only used the clear formula, but the cool thing is that it also comes in grey and black which makes a great match to original HM adhesives. Hope this helps

I have located a source for obtaining repro large size mounts. They would be identical in size, however, you would have to use abolt that has a different thread than the original mount would have used.

are the shock mounts the same for all of the early fiberglass shell chairs? I have just been given six vintage chairs ( with chrome "H base" legs) that are in excellent condition with the exception of the rubber mounts that have hardened and come apart and some of the legs that are missing sliders. Is there a source for NOS parts or new?
