For those of us who have children or who are expecting, where can we find decent baby furniture that doesn't clash with our modern decor? IKEA (Or any other department store) just doesn't have what we want and we have tried looking on the Internet as well. As we all know (Or, if I am wrong, please tell me!) Le Corbusier or Eames never made a crib!Any ideas? I suppose we could have something custom made if we could find a decent designer. Thanks in advance for any help.
Not exactly baby furniture, but Karim Rashid has created a child's version of his Q Chaise and also the very fun and reasonably priced molded plastic Kapsule chairs in bright translucent colors.
Now cribs, I dunno...but at least in a few years there are options for you.

I need a crib! I need a changing table! Cannot expect baby to sleep on LC5! Cannot make baby sleep on Rashid chess set!
However... maybe I can shrink baby using high-powered ray and have it move into my Bozart dollhouse.. hrm.
Thanks for the help tho'. I just can't believe that in ALL these years no one with any taste has designed any baby furniture. You can go really ornate and foofoo (Bratt Decor sells very elaborate cribs) or do what everyone else is doing.. chickies and duckies and bad white furniture. Sigh.
Hey, I like this Hat Sconce for a unique look...maybe not modern in the true sense of the word but certainly better than geese and winnie the pooh holding ballons!
Then there is always the custom design option. Maybe you can have that Mies-esque crib after all!

I had the same problem. So I just went simple, like Mission. However, after about 12-18 months my little girl grew out of it. Now her changing table is the top of a Russell Wright Conant Ball Chest and her bed is a Heywood Wakefield twin bed. Don't dispair, If you have to get foofoo, you can get rid of it soon. They grow soooo fast.
For the replies. I think custom may be the way to go.. We did find one cool round crib but the finish we want is discontinued! Someone could make a fortune if they started designing design-conscious baby stuff! I can't believe Stark never did anything.... Grrrrrrrr.
Better late than never, but I just found this website... We just went through the identical experience. We finally settled on some Simmons baby furniture that had clean lines in natural maple finish -- Biltmore/Eclipse changing table and crib, which you can check out on the Simmons website. As the above poster mentioned, we figured it will be soon enough that he'll be into a bigger bed and won't need a changing table, so for now the baby's room is the only non-vintage room in the house...

My kids are 6 & 7 and I never used a changing table. Keep a couple of changing pads around the house and you'll be just as happy. You'll probably be to tired to stand at a changing table anyway Spend the money on a great dresser instead!
