I have designed such an item of furniture and am in the process of getting a prototype built.
It is a Coffee Table which converts easily into a Dining Table and includes the chairs too (folding).

Here is a really rad design for a coffee table that converts into a dining table. The concept is pretty clear. If you are handy or know somebody who is you could probably build this with some really nice plywood and a couple of pivot hinges.

and can anybody advise me where to find an armchair which will be convertible to a sleeping bed... kind of a small sofa ??
