I have an Eames Plywood Lounge Chair. The back broke away from the rubber/metal mounts. Ive tried all types of adhesives... gorilla glue and epoxies. None seem to work. Does anyone have sugestions as to how to remount the back. thanks Tim
The note that Tim McGuire wrote could have been written by me - right down to Gorilla Glue. Tim is obviously a DIY kind of guy, as am I. We would like some advice on proper surface preparation and which glue to use. Getting the chair back to the manufacturer is a bit out of the question for me.
hey, i have the same problem, the back has broken on the plywood part, any idea on how much it would cost to fix 2 breaks on the center part of the chair? i'm going to have it sent to http://www.cop-inc.com/Products/Classic.shtml , but should i try to fix it myself first?
sadly this seems like an inevitibility with these chairs...i've two, and have fixed them multiple times - without success. forget epoxy etc...it doesn't work (for long).
i gave up trying myself and sent them to Hume Modern (humemodern.com)...they replaced the shock mounts and reset them for me. Unfortunately one of the two chairs failed about a month after getting them back. The rubber actually delaminated from the glue. I've sent it back again.
I noticed that Andy above has sent them back to herman Miller...that is totally the way to go (same price Hume charges) - but i heard that they no longer provide this service. Hopefully i am wrong.
if anyone else has another solution besides Hume and hermann miller, i'd love to hear it, because as much as i love the LCM i sick of worrying about it breaking everytime someone sits in it!
