Today at the thrift store, I saw what I thought was a coffee table from the late 60's. I bought it, brought it home, and inspected it. Based on the original tag, which doesn't have much information left on it, it's German, it was delivered on 10.01.1965, and it's an "essen lager," or, I imagine, a beer table. The metal base is hydraulic, and it lifts to table height; at its lowest, it's about 2 feet off the ground, so it's clearly more of a drinking table than a coffee table. The only identifying mark is a square, plastic, black and white symbol (eagle? hawk? falcon?) attached to the underside.
