sorry i cant give you a straight answer, but you really need to examine the chairs to the nth degree... there were only a very rare few DCW's that came from the factory with slunkskin hides. but, a good amount of people recovered theirs when the wood started to get worn with the more expensive slunkskin look. if they still have the tags attached to the bottom of the chair, it should be labeled as such (slunkskin covering). if the labels are missing, check to see (by feeling, or prying up a piece) to see if the wood underneath is worn or missing pieces. that would give you a good inkling of the originality of the cowhide covering.
i have good cowhide covered dcm's go for alot, around 10000 - 12000, while imitation recovered ones go for around 1000-1200. big difference!
hope this helps!
