I'm just curious as to the designer/manufacturer/release date and possibly where I can get one of these really cool fireplaces- they're brightly colored (orange, red, olive..) and have about 8ft of piping that leads up to the ceiling...here's a pic of one at some guy's site...www.realneatstuff.net....scroll down it's at the bottom of the start page... real neat stuff homepage...scroll down it's at the bottom of the start page..

Wendell Lovett designed a similar firplace in the early 50's (although you might think it much later.) I believe a number of other companies created similar designs however in the 60s and 70s. I saw one of the similar ones locally in a Philadelphia shop last year that sold for $850 and it was a bright orange color. Very cool design!

They were manufactured by Preway, and I believe date from the early 60's.
They're not uncommon and seem to come on eBay about once or twice a month.
The price can be anywhere from $100 for a fair condition green one, to over $600 for a nice orange one.
I myself want one pretty badly, but I feel they're common enough not to have to pay through the teeth for. Here's a recent eBay auction for one that I lost:
