Looking for your thoughts on 1) the approximate valuation on this expandable table (3.5'-5') that comes with four of the six original chairs. It's influenced by Hans Olsen (so I've read). And 2) your suggestions on the best way in going about selling it: approach a store (I've seen this for sale online), auction, other method?
Thanks from a newbie!
UPDATE: Thanks to the two replies and some other input it must be deduced that the store attributing the set to McCobb was incorrect. The Mid-Century Modernist says it's by Hans Olsen for Frem Rojle Moblefabrik. I'm confused: mine is definitely by Winchendon. And I doubt it's teak. Walnut perhaps? Haven't found a link to Hans Wegner anywhere to confirm that angle. This message has been edited. Last edited by: SquashBabe,
Although this set is often attributed to Paul McCobb, he did not design this set. The best way of selling it is contacting a speciality mid century auction house.
Looks more like the Hans Wegner by Fritz Hansen to me, except the backrests on the chairs are squared off and not rounded, so I would personally say it is more influenced by that than anything. You could easily get anywhere between $1500-2500 for it, as long as you do a little more research to back up what you have (or don't have). The chairs will be unmarked in most cases. Identifying marks (if any) should be on the table or the leaf for the table. Look up Hans Wegner. I know of a few places in both Montreal and Michigan, both stores and warehouse dealers that would be kind enough to help you out a little more if you were in that area.
