Hi Folks, I've been foiled at all my attempts to identify this unsigned piece. The design is quite similar to the Planer Group, but the legs are reinforced, and the back is a little different. I believe he did designs similar to the Planer group...does anyone know if this is one? Thanks much, Squid
From the angle of the image it is difficult to tell for sure but it looks more like George Nakashima for Knoll... you can visit this link to view some images of the Nakashima design. Does your chair look like these images?
Hi Barry, Wow, this chair was 5 minutes away from going back to the thrift store it came from, I'm glad I posted it first. Your knowledge is impressive. I compared the photos on the link you posted to the chair: the chair from the seat up is identical. The legs, however, are not flared out from the seat quite as much as in the photos. However, one great clue I had dismissed as a 3-year old's scribbles: It may be a signature (duh, squid). It's scrawed, intelligible, in yellow on the underside of the chair, with a number. I'll post it as soon as I can get my hands on a camera. One more clue: the 9 dowels that make up the back of the chair, where they are inserted in the botton and top, look "whittled" into the slots, rather than turned on a lathe. I am thrilled...this is fun. Thanks, Squid

Posted below is a composite photo of the scrawlings under the seat...I think it says "Mahogany," and the inset is a sample of the wood, if that helps. Do you still think it's a George Nakashima? Studio or for Knoll? Thanks much, Squid
